Amadena Investments Announces: Foxfire Diamond Exhibit Extended at the Smithsonian

The iconic stone will be exhibited for four more weeks before continuing its journey

NEW YORK, March 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The public has another chance to see North America's largest known, gem quality, natural uncut diamond, the iconic Foxfire Diamond. Currently sharing the company of the legendary Hope Diamond in the Smithsonian's Harry Winston Gallery, the Foxfire was first unveiled in London's Kensington Palace in 2015. By popular demand, the exhibition has been extended until April 2, before it continues its tour around the world.

A true miracle of nature, the Foxfire diamond was discovered by chance. Found buried deep beneath a frozen lake in a remote part of Canada, the stone was saved from certain destruction only because of its unusual shape. At 187.63 carats, the two-billion-year-old diamond is the rarest of its kind, distinguished by a fascinating provenance, extraordinary quality and remarkable size. In addition, the Foxfire shows still another remarkable trait, seldom seen in nature; with a unique luminosity, the Foxfire casts a singular glow that causes the diamond to appear to actually emit light.

The interest and excitement around the Foxfire has drawn crowds to the exhibition. A longtime category for gem connoisseurs, rare diamonds of this scale are attracting a new generation of audience members. These visitors see exceptional diamonds as the unique manifestation of both the planet's most ancient history and today's most advanced technology.

Indeed, the discovery of the diamond was a remarkable feat of engineering. Located near the Arctic Circle, the Diavik diamond mine was built in the face of enormous construction and climatic challenges. Its mining practices make use of the industry's most cutting-edge innovations to retrieve diamonds of extraordinary quality. With the expected closure of the Diavik mines by 2024, the Foxfire's place in history is secured; chances are there will never be another diamond of the Foxfire's caliber found in North America.
