American Workers Need A Vacation, And The Space Coast Is Just The Answer

SPACE COAST, Fla., March 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- With recent studies showing how much American workers suffer when they don't take the time off they deserve, Florida's Space Coast Office of Tourism has joined a large-scale effort to get people out of the office and into vacation mode.

Partnering with VISIT FLORIDA – the state's official tourism marketing corporation – and the U.S. Travel Association, the Space Coast Office of Tourism is participating in "Project: Time Off," whose mission is to prove to Americans the value of vacation time for personal well-being, professional success, business performance, and economic expansion.

To encourage people to periodically leave the workplace and its "information overload" behind, the Office of Tourism currently is promoting Florida's Space Coast as the ideal destination for spending your well-earned time off.  Through mid-March, the tourism office and its local partners are hosting a special online sweepstakes that gives consumers a chance to create and win their own customized, Space Coast dream vacation.

America's Vacation Deficit

Research from the U.S. Travel Association indicates that the 24/7 mindset of the American work culture is taking its toll on the labor force.  The association estimates that more than half (55 percent) of American workers do not use all the time off they earn, which last year amounted to 658 million unused vacation days.  With employees at all levels overstretched, stressed and exhausted, too much work without a vacation is making for a very unhealthy situation.

An overwhelming majority of American workers believe that time off helps them relax, recharge and do what they enjoy, the travel association reports.  Nearly two-thirds of employees say their concentration and productivity at work improve with taking time off.  And more than 90 percent of senior business leaders believe employees return from vacation recharged, renewed and ready to work more effectively.

Additional studies indicate that 80 percent of Americans feel travel improves their mood and outlook on life; 93 percent of kids see travel as "quality time" with their families; and 94 percent of couples who travel together feel "very close" to each other.

Dream Vacation Sweepstakes

Florida's Space Coast is doing its part to spread those good vibes.  Starting with the web page, Why You Need a Space Coast Vacation, tourism officials are underscoring the many benefits of vacation in general and a pleasure trip to the Space Coast specifically.  The page links users to a specially created microsite (www.321timeoff.com) showcasing all the vacation adventures this Atlantic region has to offer and providing the chance to enter the "Florida's Space Coast Dream Vacation" sweepstakes.

To enter, users simply click on various local activities to create their favorite type of Space Coast vacation. This automatically qualifies the participant for a drawing for the chance to win that dream vacation, plus a two-night stay for four people at an oceanfront Hilton-brand hotel in Cocoa Beach.

The deadline for sweepstakes entries is midnight March 14.  Consumers can also link to the promotional details through Florida's Space Coast page on Facebook.
