With the firm conviction to consolidate these attributes to consumers, Chile once again comes to the largest North American seafood trade fair, Seafood Expo North America, which will be held on March 16th – 18th. Cermaq, Chile Seafoods, Integra Chile, Pacific Gold - Mussels, Pacific Star, Sudmaris, Patagonia Seafarms and Ventisqueros will represent the supply of fishery and aquaculture from Chile in a 130 m2. country pavilion.
"This year, we are looking to highlight our seafood and let the U.S. market know the origin of salmon and seafood consumed here. Chile is the main supplier of salmon to the United States and second worldwide, and the challenge is that people recognize us as a reliable partner that supplies healthy and highly nutritious products," Pedro Pablo Aresti said, Trade Commissioner of Chile in New York.
"We also want to present salmon as a source of healthier protein compared to chicken or meat products that are widely consumed in the US," Mr. Aresti said.
Value added exports
In recent years, Chile has found a niche in the export of portioned and boneless sea products which make them attractive alternatives to consumers that want to eat healthy but do not find healthy and easy to prepare foods in supermarkets.
In particular, Chilean salmon contains essential fatty acids, such as triglycerides, vitamins A, B and D, plus selenium, zinc, phosphorus, calcium, iron. Salmon is also a good source of omega 3 fat which plays an important role in maintaining our health.
All these characteristics led Chilean aquaculture industry to create the SalmonChile sector brand, which has been developed in partnership with the public sector and aims at representing salmon producers. The relationship of Chilean salmon with its origin allows you to link quality and very important attributes to the product given the demanding standards of international target markets. Moreover, linking Chile with a product that is good for you speaks well of the country's image as a safe provider of healthy foods.
Mussels also have their own sector brand "Patagonia Mussel" and it is coordinated between public and private sectors in Chile. This project seeks to enhance the quality of Chilean mussels, improve their 100% natural cultivation process and meet the highest environmental and health standards required by Chilean authorities. Chilean mussel provides lots of protein, vitamins and omega-3, it is low in cholesterol and ideal for weight control diets and; it fights high blood pressure.
