TORONTO, April 17, 2018 /CNW/ - Join the Ontario Heritage Trust for another season of Doors Open Ontario – featuring 35 events across the province – starting in Guelph on April 21.

Each Doors Open Ontario event reveals unique and fascinating places, open to visitors free of charge – including many that are not normally open to the public. Doors Open Ontario 2018 will feature more than 800 sites, such as historic homes, fire stations, hiking trails, courthouses, schoolhouses, gardens, places of worship and countless others. Many sites are also offering special tours, lectures, exhibits and performances, to better explore the stories inside.

In 2018, the Ontario Heritage Trust is exploring the theme of 100 years of women's rights and suffrage, looking back to the end of the First World War – a time that saw great change for women in our society. Throughout the year, the Trust will be sharing stories about Ontario's trailblazing women and the enduring fight for equality. Doors Open Ontario will provide an opportunity to visit interesting sites that relate to this chapter in our history.

The Doors Open Ontario season runs from April to October, with events taking place on various weekends, all around the province. This year, there are two new events in Lincoln and Simcoe County. For event dates and information, visit doorsopenontario.on.ca.

Doors Open Ontario is a program of the Ontario Heritage Trust and is recognized as one of the 2018 Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario. This event receives funding support from the Celebrate Ontario program and has been financially assisted by the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, a program of the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, administered by the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund Corporation.
