El Cid Resorts Reaffirms Commitment to Environment with Turtle Release Program at Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort

RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico, Aug. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- More than 112 Caretta Caretta sea turtles were born and released this month at the Hotel Marina El Cid Spa and Beach Resort through the property's unique Turtle Release Program. The Turtle Release Program has been a success story for the resort company for 10 years now – a result of a lifetime commitment to the environment by El Cid Resorts of Mexico that dates back to its founder, Don Julio Berdegué.

As part of the program and conservation effort, 133 sea turtle eggs were placed in nests and protected areas throughout the  hotel's beach grounds earlier this June and were actively protected until their hatching two months later. The program has become synonymous with El Cid Resort's commitment to the environment since it was first launched at the resort in 2006.

Of the eight species of turtles in the world, seven of them arrive to nest on Mexican beaches, and four of those on the beaches of Quintana Roo. They reproduce when they are between 30 and 50 years old, and their reproductive cycles can be every two, four, six or even eight years depending on the species. Only one in 1,000 survives to become a mature turtle.
