The festival first took place in 1993, and has since become a magnet for national, local and international artists from every genre. Many of the world's biggest names in their respective fields appear in venues at the festival in any given year. The Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán is the official organizer of the festival. The event recently received recognition from the national tourism board for achieving a high level of artistic excellence.
