Federal funds approved by Mexico's Congress will continue to flow into the region.

One of the newer projects is Playa Espiritu, a locale some 50 miles due south of Mazatlán that will cater to large tour and business groups. When complete, Playa Espiritu will add about 10,000 hotel rooms, golf courses, and more. The government hopes that the additional space will become a long-term boost to Mazatlán's economy.
