Epoch Estate Wines Opens New Tasting Room at Historic York Mountain

PASO ROBLES, Calif., March 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Carefully constructed from the historic and beloved bones of York Mountain Winery, the new tasting room at Epoch Estate Wines is now open to the public. The first bonded winery on the Central Coast, originally established in 1882, York Mountain Winery was condemned in 2003 due to damage from the San Simeon Earthquake.  In 2010, Bill and Liz Armstrong of Epoch purchased the property out of foreclosure with the intent of revitalizing this historic landmark while making it Epoch's new home.

A full reconstruction of York Mountain Winery by Lake Flato Architects and Brian Korte of BK.Architect LLC breathes new life into the design, while honoring the historic integrity of the site. This includes the careful and loving preservation of the original redwood beams as well as the bricks that were fired on property in 1906. These bricks along with the stones from the original cellar have been incorporated back into the structure with perfect precision. A basket press that was once used by the York brothers now sits amongst the rafters to replicate the original positioning which allowed gravity to bring juice from the crushed grapes to the main floor. This modern-meets-rustic space showcases and celebrates the York Legacy as it simultaneously beckons the future of Epoch.

The Armstrongs are also proud owners of the historic Paderewski Vineyard, land that was once owned and cherished by Polish pianist and Prime Minister, Ignacy Jan Paderewski.  On this property, Paderewski planted Zinfandel and Petite Sirah vines from which harvested grapes were transported to York Mountain Winery where the York brothers helped create award-winning wine.

Epoch's new tasting room will appeal to many, from the history buff to the most sophisticated wine lover. Epoch's highly regarded wines crafted from estate-grown Rhone, Zinfandel, and Tempranillo varieties are now being offered in a few tasting formats, and appointments can be booked on their website: http://www.epochwines.com.

"We know how beloved this building and property are for so many long-time York Mountain patrons. It has been a labor of love to piece this condemned building back together and to see it rise proudly once more," notes Liz and Bill Armstrong. Bill, Liz and the entire Armstrong and Epoch Family are overjoyed to welcome you to this historic property daily from 10 AM to 4 PM
