'Fly me to Thailand' promotion launched for short-haul markets

BANGKOK, Oct. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Bangkok Airways have launched a new 'Fly me to Thailand' promotion, offering privileges, gift cards, discounts and many more special deals for travellers from Cambodia, Lao PDR., Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) as well as Malaysia, Singapore and India.

Mr. Klissada Ratanapruk, TAT Executive Director, ASEAN South Asia and South Pacific Region said, "Thailand is entering this year's high season from October onwards, so it is an opportune time to offer special privileges for tourists from our neighbouring ASEAN countries as well as from our long-standing, short-haul friend, India. The special offers from operators of tourism products and services across the country will also help enhance the awareness of the amazing variety of Thai travel experiences."

Under the 'Fly me to Thailand' promotion, every group booking of three travellers from the CLMV, Malaysia, Singapore and India on Bangkok Airways can get a Central Group, Thailand's largest retailer, gift card valued at 800 Baht. Travellers can also get discounts, special deals and privileges at 63 tourism products and services including hotels, resorts, spas, amusement parks, adventure parks, water parks, museums, restaurants, aesthetic clinics, and much more.

Mr. Klissada said, "The promotion is expected to attract an additional 25,000 travellers from the target markets to travel to Thailand between now and 31 December, 2019. This would help generate approximately 924 million Baht in revenue for the Thai economy."

Facts at a glance

In 2018, Thailand welcomed 10.34 million arrivals from ASEAN on an average length of stay of 5.65 days and per capita spending of 5,452.61 Baht a day, generating 318.80 million Baht in revenue.

Of these, there were 950,980 arrivals from Cambodia (36.70 billion Baht in revenue), 1,682,304 arrivals from Lao PDR. (50.33 billion Baht in revenue), 379,880 arrivals from Myanmar (15.23 billion Baht in revenue), and 1,053,723 from Vietnam (35 billion Baht in revenue).

The number of arrivals from Malaysia in 2018 stood at 4 million travellers (generating 104.5 billion Baht in revenue), from Singapore at 1.16 million (42 billion Baht in revenue) and India at 1.56 million (66.70 billion Baht in revenue).

In 2019, between January and July, Thailand recorded 501,486 arrivals from Cambodia (20 billion Baht in revenue), 1 million arrivals from Lao PDR. (29 billion Baht in revenue), 223,078 arrivals from Myanmar (8.1 billion Baht in revenue), and 651,698 arrivals from Vietnam (21 billion Baht in revenue).

From Malaysia, there were 2.24 million arrivals (57 billion Baht in revenue); from Singapore, at 567,453 arrivals (20 billion Baht in revenue) and from India, 1.14 million arrivals (46 billion Baht in revenue).
