HUALIEN, Taiwan, Nov. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Under the aegis of "the Tourism Bureau (MOTC)and organized by "the East Rift Valley National Scenic Area Administration", the Fonglin Township Cycling Trip and Slow City Park Opening Concert, the finale of Taiwan's cycling festival series, kicked off at the Slow City Park in Fonglin Township on November 16. At the event, nearly 700 cyclists and more than 2,000 visitors embarked on their journey to enjoy the scenery in and around Fonglin.

Wu Jieping, a group leader at "the Taiwan Tourism Bureau", said "the bureau" has been promoting tours by bicycle over recent years with this year also being the "Taiwan Small Town Ramble". Fonglin Township is not only the first town in Taiwan to be named as a "Slow City" by Cittaslow International, but also the only town combining slow city, Hakka Village and classic features among all the towns taking part in the tour. The main theme of the event is "slow life" and "leisure", letting visitors experience the beauty and charm of Fonglin and its environs.

As explained by Guo Zhenling, director of the "Administration", the event includes three different routes - the Small Town, Hakka Village and East Rift Valley Rice Park routes, giving participants the option to choose a fun riding experience matched to their own preferences and physical strength. The Fonglin Recreation area, which is located along the East Rift Valley Rice Park route, features a lineup of premium recreational vehicles showcasing camping equipment as well as affording the cyclists the opportunity to win free use of the equipment during their stay as prizes of lucky draws. Visitors can follow the map to find the designated scenic spots and specialty shops along the way, where they can "punch cards", play competitive games, collect stamps, and play lottery draws. In addition to local inhabitants and cycling teams from Taoyuan, visitors of all ages from Kaohsiung and Taipei attended the event with their families. Children who grew up in an urban environment had the rare experience of slow riding and roaming, tasting local food and enjoying music performances in Fonglin, a small town in Hualien.
