DENVER, Oct. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --  The results of the 2016 "Living Legends of Aviation" survey voted Frederick W Smith as the "Most historically significant of all aviation entrepreneurs."  In previous years, Howard Hughes had captured that designation until the 2016 survey.  Having founded a 60 billion dollar global company, with nearly 700 aircraft and more than 400,000 company associates, FedEx was built around aviation.

Fred Smith's accomplishments in aviation will be very difficult to surpass as he continues to impact the world economy.  Frederick W. Smith was inducted into the "Living Legends of Aviation" in 2003 on the 100th anniversary of flight.  His fellow "Living Legends of Aviation" honored him in 2013 with the "Lifetime Aviation Entrepreneur Award," and he was enshrined in the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 2011.
