MONTRÉAL, Dec. 14, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal's 375th anniversary announced the addition of the Motoneige MTL Xtrem event to its Les Hivernales programming at noon today with a surprise demonstration. This coming Saturday, February 4th and Sunday, February 5th, 2017, 10 of the biggest world snowmobiling champions will be performing breathtaking aerial tricks in the heart of the city.

Presented by Tribu Expérentiel, these spectacular and jaw-dropping snowmobile performances will take over downtown Montréal. Union Street up to Square Philips will become a snow-packed course for these elite snowmobilers and their incredible jumps above Sainte-Catherine Street. An absolute first!

Thrill seekers, adrenaline junkies and action sports fans alike are invited to come watch the high-octane Motoneige MTL Xtrem. This is a free event on the official 375th programming.

This unique event will bring together champion riders who will show off their phenomenal feats and fearlessness on a course that includes two ramps designed exclusively for the occasion. Soaring more than 10 metres in the air, the athletes will cover a distance of come 25 metres, and their most daring and dangerous stunts, including the famous back flip, promises to leave hearts pounding. They'll hit the ramps in rapid succession during three gravity-defying demonstrations, giving audiences the most spectacular show ever.

"Tribu Expérientiel is a true ambassador of urban adrenaline and unique sporting events. With this show, we're bringing the mountain spirit to the city because snowmobiling is a symbol of our Quebecois identity," said Micah Desforges, President and Founder of Tribu Expérientiel and producer of the BARBEGAZI winter action sports festival.

"This is a one-of-a-kind winter spectacle for thrill seekers," said Serge Postigo, Assistant Commissioner for Montréal's 375th anniversary celebrations. "What an amazing opportunity to show how we make the best of winter with a typically Quebecois invention. There's nothing like a electrifying demonstration in the heart of downtown to celebrate our urban and northern character."

"Events big and small will be taking place across the city to celebrate our 375th anniversary in high style. And they've officially kicked off! Stunning activities like an extreme snowmobiling event at the heart of downtown shows just how dynamic and defiant Montréal is in the face of cold. Long live winter in Montréal!" declared Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montréal.

"The Gouvernement du Québec is a proud partner of Montréal's 375th anniversary festivities and invites the public to take advantage of the many activities like this, which celebrate not only where we live, but how we live winter, and Montréal's signature creativity," said the Member of the National Assembly for D'Arcy-McGee, M. David Birnbaum for Martin Coiteux, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Minister of Public Security and Minister responsible for the Montréal region.

"Winter sports are part of the very fabric of our history and our identity," said the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage. "As part of the Hivernales for the Society for Montréal's 375th anniversary celebrations, the contribution of snowmobiling will be showcased with incredible acrobatic demonstrations. The 150th anniversary of Confederation offers everyone a unique opportunity to celebrate sport in our communities. Come take part in the fun and enjoy the show!"
