CULVER CITY, Calif., Nov. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- RM Sotheby's, the world's largest auction house for investment-quality automobiles, will hold its final sale of 2018 at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. This marks the first auction held at the Petersen following its $90 million redesign in 2015. The 8 December sale features more than 60 blue-chip automobiles representing a cross-section of significant eras and categories in collector car history. Beyond the cars, significant memorabilia and automotive art features in the auction, including numerous pieces by artists—such as Ed Roth and Von Dutch—who gave birth to Kustom Kulture.

The Petersen provides the perfect backdrop for RM Sotheby's sale. Since its inception in 1994, the Museum has played host to exhibits that have captured the attention of the automotive world, all while seeking to preserve Los Angeles as the capital of car creativity, consumption, and culture. Los Angeles captures not only diverse collecting tastes, but also all the hobby has to offer, from ocean-view driving along the Pacific Coast Highway, to carving through the technical courses provided by local canyons. Coupled with the amenities of a world-class city, RM Sotheby's Los Angeles auction will provide a destination weekend for bidders from around the world.

For the one-of-a-kind Los Angeles auction, RM Sotheby's has created a unique catalogue that reflects the artistry and style of Robert E. Petersen's most famous publications, including Hot Rod magazine. The catalogue divides entries into 10 categories across the collector car market including American Icons, Continental Legends, Next Generation Hot Wheels, Kustom Kulture and Old School Kool. The Grand Finale features the undisputed star of the sale, a 1956 Ferrari 290 MM–the final of just four built, driven by some of the greatest racing drivers of all time (Estimate: $22,000,000 - $26,000,000).

Additional highlights include a lineup of supercars across the ages, featuring a unique blue example of the original supercar – a 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV, along with several California hot rods, including the highly significant 1932 Ford "Lloyd Bakan" Coupe, as well as fascinating pieces of Steve McQueen memorabilia.

All cars will be on exhibition Friday, 7 December for admission of $30. The auction is set for 12:00pm on Saturday, 8 December. For more information, visit rmsothebys.com.
