LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – A male Masai giraffe calf was born Monday, Jan. 14, at Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. Some guests experiencing the park's Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction that morning were able to see the wonder of nature firsthand as the calf was delivered.

The mother and calf have been under close supervision by the Disney's Animal Kingdom animal care team. Since birth, the pair have been backstage nursing and bonding; they will continue to stay backstage for a month or two before returning to the savanna. The animal care team is conducting neonatal exams to gauge the calf's weight, height and gender. Disney cast members will be helping choose a name for the calf.
