Kansas: Wichita and Topeka Rank as Least Expensive Destinations in the Midwest

CHICAGO, May 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Topeka and Wichita have been ranked as the two least expensive destinations in the Midwest, according to the latest survey from ChicagoHotels.org.

The survey compared 30 Midwestern cities based on their cost of lodging. The present month of May served as the basis of comparison. For each destination, the average rate for the cheapest available double room (minimum 3-star hotel) was established.

With an average price tag of $87 per night for the most affordable double room, Topeka appears at the very bottom of the rankings. Only two dollars more expensive and taking the survey's penultimate position is Kansas's state capital of Wichita.

On the other end of the spectrum is Madison, the capital of the state of Wisconsin. At an average rate of $182 nightly, it earns the title of being the most expensive destination in the Midwest.

The following table shows the five most and the five least expensive destinations in the Midwest based on the average rate for their cheapest available double room (minimum 3-star hotel) during the time period spanning May 1–31, 2016.
