London West Hollywood hotel

The London West Hollywood hotel launches its new bi-level, 11,000 square foot Penthouse Inspired by Vivienne Westwood, scheduled for completion May 18, 2015. Guests will access the tenth floor penthouse through a private, contemporary-styled corridor that leads to 6,000 square feet of spacious and striking design, specially created to form an intimate ambiance. The experience is then taken to new heights on the suite's 5,000 square foot private outdoor rooftop terrace, ideal for entertaining and featuring breathtaking panoramic city views. LA's largest suite was designed in collaboration between Richmond Design and the renowned British fashion designer, featuring exclusive art and decor and customized furnishings. Three new Metropolitan guest suites, which will debut in tandem on the hotel's second floor, will range between 1,600-2,200 square feet and feature upscale residential design. This will mark the completion of the hotel's overall $25 million renovation.

"We are proud to unveil the city's largest, most lavish and fashion-forward hotel suite, inspired by renowned designer Vivienne Westwood, and we look forward to impressing our discerning guests with all it has to offer," says General Manager Jeff Kulek. The new penthouse, along with our three impressive new Metropolitan Collection suites, not only offer superior overnight accommodations, but also provide unparalleled entertaining opportunities found nowhere else in Los Angeles.

"We were initially approached by The London West Hollywood to add inspiration to the penthouse with our prints and graphics. We have specially curated rugs, wall-hangings and soft furnishings to bring a subtle element of our brand to the luxury apartment. It's really exciting to see our designs translated into an interior space," says Andreas Kronthaler, Vivienne Westwood Design Partner & Creative Director.

Guests are welcomed into the suite through double entry doors, which are set back from the Corridor and accented by sconces on each side. The doors open onto a large foyer that seamlessly connects to the 2,000 square foot Grand Salon – a striking, open entertaining space boasting polished stone floors, large corner sofas, bespoke cabinetry and rich furniture, accented by Vivienne Westwood cushions and upholstery. A long back wall features a built-in bookcase, backed with Verre Eglomise mirror panels.

The focal point of the salon is a large central rug, boasting the iconic Vivienne Westwood squiggle pattern. The hand-spun & hand-knotted Tibetan wool rug was especially designed and created for the room in a pale and teal blue squiggle print. The print was first seen in Westwood's seminal 1981 Pirate Collection- and has become an iconic print synonymous with the brand.
"Like clothes which have to be worn, a rug is an applied art, it has to be lived with"
-Vivienne Westwood

The Salon is bordered by two stunning Atriums, featuring skylights that help pour light into the room. The east-facing Atrium will house a water feature, where water will cascade down a textured stone wall into a raised pool below.

The well-appointed Master Bedroom Suite is comprised of a series of luxurious spaces. The bedroom features a coffered ceiling, a contemporary King-sized four poster bed, and a Vivienne Westwood wall hanging entitled 'Adventure'. The handmade tapestry measures 125 x 125cms and is hand-stitched in wool through an open weave canvas and stretched on a wooden frame. The design is taken from Westwood's Spring/Summer 2001 collection 'Exploration', and is inspired by Westwood's exploration of the world-- through the discovery of natural history, science and literature.

The mirrored dressing room boasts Vivienne Westwood black & white cut-out lace print wallcoverings and an impressive marble bathroom with especially designed hand drawn Westwood tartan, white on white, soft cotton towels, and a ceiling light, which casts shadows down onto a free-standing bathtub. The second bedroom was designed in similar style to the Master and has direct access to the corridor, enabling it to be booked exclusive to the penthouse.

The Media Room can be shut off from the rest of the suite by large sliding panels. The room features Vivienne Westwood specially designed beige & olive green enlarged dogtooth print fabric furnishings and a timber-lined ceiling, while central to the space is a large, wall-mounted TV screen alongside another of Westwood's wall hangings. This hand-made wool tapestry is entitled 'Active Resistance', and was originally a knitwear design taken from the Autumn/Winter 06/07 'Innocent' collection. Inspired by ancient Greek symbols of good luck, the tapestry measures 100 x 100cms and is stretched on a wooden frame.

In front of this sits a sumptuous 'L'-shaped sofa, which can be divided into various segments in order to suit the guests' needs. The sofa is adorned with a selection of Westwood's iconic scatter cushions including: 'Lips', taken from an image of Westwood's one-time muse, Sara Stockbridge, originally used in the Autumn/Winter 04/05 collection 'Exhibition', the iconic distressed union jack flag print taken from the Autumn/Winter 02/03 'Anglomania' collection, the brand's signature orb which symbolizes ´taking tradition into the future', and finally the scribble orb which is a hand-drawn orb overlaid on a classic tartan background.

The full-size Kitchen, ideal for extended stays and entertaining, features a sleek design, with glass splash backs and lacquered cupboard doors. The Dining Room features a central, stone-topped table that can seat up to ten people. The table sits below a dark timber slatted ceiling and large chandelier, affording views through to the west-facing Atrium. A collection of stunning Vivienne Westwood cotton and silk scarves, which were hand-picked exclusively from the designer's archives, are framed and displayed throughout the room. Amongst the selection will feature; Endangered species, London Blackout, Do it yourself, London Skyline, Climate revolution, Sex square, and Let it rock scarves- that are all prints which have been taken from seminal Westwood collections and campaigns from over the last 30 years.

Guests can take either an in-suite elevator or private staircase to access the penthouse's magnificent 5,000 square foot rooftop terrace, which can hold 300 guests and offers breath-taking panoramic views of Los Angeles. The terrace is comprised of myriad areas that are capable of seating groups for every occasion. This includes large daybeds, and sofas, upholstered with custom Vivienne Westwood white and deep blue squiggle print exclusive fabrics, grouped around a fire pit, with high bar tables below umbrellas, and specially made Westwood unisex squiggle print towels in mink and blue, to complement the exterior furnishings. There is also an outdoor kitchen with a stone island unit, which is idyllic for entertaining, both day and night.

The Penthouse Inspired by Vivienne Westwood guests will also be treated to exclusive designer experiences, including one hour of private shopping at the Vivienne Westwood store in West Hollywood and a special discount on all purchases; His and Her gift bags from Vivienne Westwood upon check-in; and Vivienne Westwood-branded amenities within the suite. The Penthouse Inspired by Vivienne Westwood will be priced at $25,000 per night.

Recognized as places of quality and elegance, the Strand, Regent Street and Park Lane inspired the three new Metropolitan Suites located on the hotel's second floor. All three of the one and two-bedroom suites, ranging between 1,600- 2,200 square feet, are spacious and bright. The one-bedroom Regent Street Suite can also connect to the two-bedroom Park Lane Suite, creating an expansive three-bedroom suite, ideal for families and entertaining. Lighting coffers, timber floors, bespoke furniture and built-in cabinetry all add to the suites' residential feel. Each of the suites has an adjoining salon that features large corner sofas and TV walls. The elegant bedrooms employ muted palettes, and large walk-in wardrobes and marble-lined bathrooms with free-standing bathtubs add to the sense of luxury. The artwork in each Suite reflects its respective historic name. Pricing for the Metropolitan Suites starts at $2,500 per night.

The third phase of the hotel's renovations follows the debut of The London West Hollywood's 110-seat Screening Room, new junket suites, new ninth floor suites (five spacious specialty Gate Suites and sixteen Royal Vista Suites) and a new 2,600 square foot state-of-the-art fitness center.
