MAZATLÁN, Mexico, Sept. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Cruise ships are some of the best ways to take a vacation, and three cruise lines recently introduced plans to sail to Baja and the Mexican Riviera.
The largest ship in the fleet of Princess Cruises, the Royal Princess, will soon embark on seven-night cruises from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera, starting in 2018. With over 3,500 passengers, they will be able experience stops in Puerta Vallarta, Mazatlán, and Cabo San Lucas. Princess Cruises also has their Star Princess and Emerald Princess ships with similar itineraries.
Holland America is bringing their second Vista class cruise ship to México, with cruises beginning this year. The ms Oosterdam and ms Westerdam will have seven-day cruises from San Diego to ports in Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas and Puerta Vallarta, beginning in September and running through February.
These cruises are unique because they will offer a look at Mexican culture, as part of the ships' Explorations Central program. Featuring Mexican cuisine and information about traditions, there will be fun tutorials that deal with dances, cooking, and more.
Finally, Disney Cruise lines are coming back to the Mexican market in 2018, with the Disney Wonder sailing from San Diego to México from September to October. Similar ports to the other two cruise lines, Disney is known for their family-friendly cruises, and themed rooms.
Mazatlán is a frequented port for cruise lines, and for good reason. The "Pearl of the Pacific", as it is affectionately known, has begun a renovation of their major port. A new historic center, combined with local artistic flare and long beach promenades make this town a must stop for cruise ships.
With its famous Golden Zone, known locally as Zona Dorada tourists can shop, eat, and drink to their hearts content. On the other side of the city sits Old Mazatlán, filled with colonial architecture, bistros, and art galleries.
Mazatlán has a long history when it comes to its port, dating back to pirates in the 1800's. A prime spot along the Pacific Coast shipping route, it became a target for privateers, Spanish explorers, and merchants from around the world. German immigrants placed Mazatlán on the map around this time, and the city became a good port for shipping cargo. The city continues to be one of the major ports for Mexican shipping, exporting around 40 million pounds of shrimp, per year.
The tourism industry began in the 1960's, when famous celebrities arrived in the area to search for large trophy fish. A long time spring break spot, the city now has a more diverse vacation crowd, and caters to artists with Mazatlán's sense of culture and appreciation for the fine arts. The city hosts the famous Mazatlán Cultural Festival every October through December, and attract thousands to see live music, art, dance, and literature.
