Fueled by innovation in its traditional sectors of foodstuffs, textiles, ceramics, and building materials, Portugal is undergoing an economic revival and has shown 15 quarters of consecutive growth through Q2 2017. This economic renaissance is reflected in growing tourism and business travel to the region: in 2016, Condé Nast Traveler declared Lisbon the most under-rated city in Europe, and in 2017, Global Peace rated Portugal the 3rd safest country in the world. Due to the combination of internal business growth and record foreign direct investment, the US increasingly views Portugal as a growing tourism, logistics, and innovation hub.

The AEP is the primary business association in Portugal working to reflect Portuguese competitiveness through establishing enterprises, business associations, and joint-ventures; facilitating the European incentive systems; supporting innovation; and providing mediation and legal support. This program is funded in part by the European Union.
