Migrate To Florida's Space Coast Jan. 25-30 For The Year's Biggest Birding And Wildlife Festival

TITUSVILLE, Fla., Jan. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Plans are bigger and better than ever for the 20th annual Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival – the nation's top birding event.

Listed on more than one occasion by the Southeastern Tourism Society as one of the region's top 20 events, the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival is recognized as the largest activity of its kind in the United States. Since its inception in 1996, it has become a premier national and international destination, drawing fans from far and wide for birding, wildlife watching and other nature-based pursuits that even stretch into the arts. Activities during the festival are led by nationally prominent naturalists and scientists, as well as photographers, artists, authors and, of course, ornithologists.

The 2017 festival takes place Jan. 25-30 and will be based on the Titusville campus of Eastern Florida State College, at 1311 North U.S. Route 1.

"This is truly the country's foremost birding event, but there's also much more going on for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers during the festival," said Eric Garvey, Executive Director of Florida's Space Coast Office of Tourism. "There will be ample opportunities to explore some of the Space Coast's world-renowned natural habitat, which is home to the largest collection of endangered wildlife and plants in the continental U.S."

The six-day festival will feature one-of-a-kind field trips for birding and other wildlife watching; additional excursions focused on technology, photography and local culture; outdoor workshops; an offshore birding boat trip; nature-based exhibits and art competitions; classroom lectures and evening keynote presentations; and opportunities to meet informally with national authorities on birds, plants, photography, optics, and other sciences and technologies.

The event's organizers say they plan to showcase for attendees one of the most-diverse estuaries in North America – Florida's extensive Indian River Lagoon, an ecosystem that is home to more than 3,000 species of plants and animals.

Also planned for the 2017 festival: a Saturday night street party in Titusville's quaint Downtown Historic District, plus a "Travel & Adventure" Sunday. For more details about these special events visit the festival website.
