Ocean Cube, The First Oceanic and Immersive Underwater Exhibit, To Debut in New York City Next Month

NEW YORK, May 16, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Not many have ever dreamed of riding a jellyfish, or imagined nodding off in a shark pool. These fantasies are about to come true. The immersive exhibit Ocean Cube will drive participants into a futuristic 3D space of human beings who live under the sea. Ocean Cube will debut in New York City on June 8, 2019, at 60 Grand Street, New York, NY, 10013. It is a matrix that reflects vivid human life in the deep ocean in 2119.

Ocean Cube features 5 rooms and 20 additional instagrammable spots. Among the highlights, the participants will enter Coral Tunnel, walk through Net Guard, and then arrive in Jellyfish Station or swim in Bubble Mall and finally save memory in Recycle Bank. The entire journey begins with touchable 3D coral reef models and ends in a colorful, but 'polluted' memorable bottle room; the exhibit imitates a surreal human world under the sea and highlights the current environmental problems on earth.

Jellyfish Station, the third room in the exhibit, is the transportation hub in the deep-sea environment. Artists have worked to increase the scale of these majestic jellyfishes to enhance the viewer's perception of their delicate form. Designers imagine jellyfishes and whales are the vehicles used frequently in undersea life. The participants will feel a sense of lightness as jellyfishes defy gravity as they would underwater.

Designing Jellyfish Station wasn't easy, and designers are struggling with creating the tactile, but a super-real experience for participants. Randy Fernando, one of the designers, states, "Trying to replicate nature in fabrication is a difficult task. We had to combine the idea of precise manufacturing techniques and organic aesthetics. The jellyfish are meant to make you seem as if you are floating with them. They are light, delicate, and play with both color and texture. You end up immersing yourself into a tranquil and meditative state in a field of these delicate creatures and cool color tones."

In addition, Coral Tunnel, the first room in the cube, represents the unique channel between the polluted surface and the undersea in 2119. A canopy of vibrant flowing strands can navigate participants in the speed of light in this tunnel. Designers use side glow optical fibers to imitate coral reefs and paint the wall to a coral color. Hundreds of strands fall from the ceiling and drive participants into the surrealistic space.
