WASHINGTON, April 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Last night, Qatar Airways was proud to sponsor the fourth annual Global Beat event at the United Nations Foundation Headquarters in Washington D.C. The gathering honored Foreign Correspondents and served as a kickoff for the weekend of the White House Correspondents Dinner.

The Global Beat celebrates the bravery and commitment of foreign and international news correspondents, who continue to risk their lives in increasingly dangerous areas in service of the press. The event brings together influential Washington policymakers, prominent media personalities, accomplished journalists, rising stars, and celebrities known for their activism and involvement in international affairs.

"As a global airline, we are in the business of bringing the world together." Said Qatar Airways Vice-President of the Americas, Mr. Gunter Saurwein. "World travel is a means to broaden our horizons and gain new perspective, so we honor these dedicated men and women, who enrich our understanding of the world beyond our own borders."

Qatar Airways is proud to support US global travelers by offering 10 U.S. cities access to over 150 destinations around the world. The reigning "Airline of the Year" recently commenced daily non-stop service from Los Angeles (LAX), Boston (BOS), and is launching service from Atlanta (ATL) on June 1st.

"International journalists tell the stories that bring attention to the most important challenges confronting our world today—from poverty to health, from girls empowerment to energy and climate. That awareness helps drive innovative solutions to tackle the big issues at global scale," said Aaron Sherinian, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at the United Nations Foundation. "The Foundation counts on partners like Qatar Airways who are committed to bringing awareness on the importance of these journalists. "

Qatar Airways is committed to supporting events, such as Global Beat, as well as many local and international charitable foundations.
