NEW YORK, March 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Saker Aviation Services, Inc. (SKAS), an aviation services company specializing in ground-based services to the general aviation marketplace, today announced its financial results for the twelve months ended December 31, 2016.

Revenue and net income in the twelve months ended December 31, 2016 of $14,690,654 and $880,430, respectively, were down 8.0 percent and up 26.6 percent, respectively, as compared to revenue of $15,974,307 and net income of $695,208 in the twelve months ended December 31, 2015.

"We're pleased with the results for the year.  Despite the first two phases of mandatory air tour reductions at our Heliport operation, which drove the unfavorable revenue comparison, we were able to produce a favorable year-over-year net income comparison," stated Ron Ricciardi, the Company's President.  "We are mindful, however, that the final phased air tour reduction, which occurred on January 1st, will further challenge 2017 results."

The Company also reported Adjusted EBITDA1 of $2,334,112 for the twelve months ended December 31, 2016, a decrease of $436,417 or 15.8 percent as compared to Adjusted EBITDA of $2,770,529 in the twelve months ended December 31, 2015.  Please see footnote 1 below for the Company's definition of Adjusted EBITDA, a description of why the Company uses Adjusted EBITDA and important disclaimers regarding Adjusted EBITDA, which is a non-GAAP measure.  A reconciliation of Adjusted EBITDA to the appropriate GAAP measure is also included in footnote 1.

-FINANCIAL TABLES TO FOLLOW -

1 Explanation of Adjusted EBITDA, a Non-GAAP Financial Measure

The Company defines Adjusted EBITDA as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, as adjusted for stock based compensation expense and other income and expense items.  The Company believes that Adjusted EBITDA, which is a financial measure that is not defined by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP"), is a useful performance metric because it eliminates non-cash and/or non-recurring charges to earnings.  It is important to note that non-GAAP measures such as Adjusted EBITDA should be considered in addition to, not as a substitute for or superior to, net income, cash flows, or other measures of financial performance prepared in accordance with GAAP.  A reconciliation of net income to Adjusted EBITDA is as follows for the twelve months ended December 31, 2016 and 2015.
