'Salt Fever (or the Last Fast Place in Australia)', a Unique Outlier Motorsport Documentary Film, Launches on Kickstarter

LONDON, Nov. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Salted Nuts Film Productions aims to raise US$85,000 to introduce millions of motorsport fans to the discipline of land speed racing on a giant salt lake. 

This is an independent film about extreme human endurance, extreme temperatures and extreme speeds.  With an international crew of fresh talent from the UK, Australia, Italy, Canada, Singapore, Luxembourg, looking to break the boundaries of documentary filmmaking  -- think Sergio Leone meets David Attenborough on the big screen.

The story unfolds at the annual Dry Lakes Racers Speed Week event at Lake Gairdner in South Australia.  We follow Matt in his 1993 BMW M3 and a colourful community of racers as they attempt to break new land speed records. 

This is an outlier event, a grassroots affair.  There is no prize money, no sponsorship fanfare, just raw passion and a full-on commitment to going fast on 9 miles of Salt. It's addictive, and the regulars call it 'Salt Fever'.

Lake Gairdner is a giant salt lake that stretches from horizon to horizon - it's one of few places on Earth where bits of the Proterozoic era still cracks through the surface from a time when algae was barely born and oxygen hardly available.  This is Mad Max land - with average ambient temperatures of 39 degrees Celsius pushing to 50 Celsius midday; where the surface is so hot, lizards have to skip on it.

We are joined by Dr Paul Read, from Australia's leading Melbourne University and a renowned spokesperson on Environmental Psychology and Sustainability.  "We'll be monitoring heart rate, body temperature and a range of biofeedback during filming to get a rare glimpse into what might happen when a land speed record is actually broken,"  said Dr Read.  "We'll also take a look at the psychology of these delightfully salted nuts to see what's going on 'under the hood' as they turn nature upside down and hoon around one of the world's most ancient geographies."

It'll be a bodyhack for a supercharged beamer bash in the bush!
