PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sentinel Hotel announced today that it has taken action to investigate and address an incident affecting payment card data at the hotel's front desk.

After receiving reports of unauthorized charges occurring on the payment cards of some of its guests after they had used their card at the Sentinel Hotel, Sentinel immediately launched an investigation and hired a leading computer security firm to assist.  On October 5, 2016, the investigation identified signs that an unauthorized program was installed on one of the payment terminals at the hotel's front-desk designed to copy data as it was input into the terminal.  The program could have copied payment card data – including cardholder name, payment card account number, card expiration date, and verification code – of guests who used a payment card at this one terminal during the period from July 12, 2016 to October 3, 2016.  Cards used on the Sentinel website were not affected.

Sentinel has stopped this incident and continues to work with the computer security firm to further strengthen the security of its systems to help prevent this from happening again.  Sentinel has also notified law enforcement and will continue to support their investigation.  For those guests that Sentinel can identify as having used their payment card at the affected terminal during the at-risk window and for whom Sentinel has a mailing address or email address, Sentinel will be mailing a letter or sending an email to them.

Sentinel deeply regrets any inconvenience or concern this may have caused. Guests with questions may visit www.sentinelhotel.com/protectingourcustomers or call 844-565-4394 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PT, Monday to Friday.
