WATERLOO, ON, May 18, 2016 /CNW/ - Sandvine, (TSX:SVC) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today announced that SITAONAIR, an air transport communications provider dedicated to helping airlines realize the full potential of the connected aircraft, has been using Sandvine's network policy controls solutions since early 2015 to help them provide a high-quality Internet experience for their customers' passengers.

Sandvine's Policy Traffic Switch (PTS) is deployed in SITAONAIR's network and carefully manages traffic for dozens of airlines, and thousands of planes and daily passengers. Sandvine identifies traffic and provides real-time policy enforcement to prioritize applications, while also measuring subscriber quality of experience and making that information available in reports.

Sandvine provides detailed measurements that let SITAONAIR understand how the in-flight Internet service is used. This information can later be used to study the potential for new services and to enhance traffic management policies that optimize use of available bandwidth.

In April 2016, the SITAONAIR and Sandvine deployment was awarded as the "Most Innovative Policy-Enabled Project or Application" at the 2016 Policy Control Awards held in Berlin. The Policy Control Awards are judged by leading industry analysts and are handed out annually to honor the best network policy control innovations.

"Passengers' needs have evolved to the point where web connectivity is now an essential for many. Sandvine has worked closely with our team to ensure we deliver a high-quality Internet experience to passengers at 30,000 feet in the air letting airlines meet these ever-increasing expectations," said Greg Ouillon, Chief Technology Officer, SITAONAIR.

"SITAONAIR is dedicated to creating unique connected aircraft solutions, and Sandvine are proud to be playing a key role in helping them achieve that goal," said Don Bowman, Chief Technology, Officer, Sandvine.
