ST. GEORGE, Utah, Feb. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SkyWest, Inc., (NASDAQ: SKYW) ("SkyWest") today reported 162,407 block hours in January 2016, compared to 176,176 block hours in January 2015, a decrease of 13,769, or 7.8%. The net decrease was consistent with SkyWest's fleet transition plan to improve the mix of aircraft in its fleet by adding new dual class aircraft to its fleet, while reducing its 50-seat and 30-seat aircraft.
The year-over-year net change was primarily driven by approximately 7,800 additional block hours from its incremental 76-seat E175 aircraft and a decrease of approximately 21,200 block hours from fewer 50-seat jet (CRJ200s and ERJ135s/145s) and 30-seat turboprop (EMB-120) aircraft.
In January 2016, SkyWest's dual class aircraft (CRJ700s, CRJ900s and E175s) represented approximately 42% of SkyWest's total block hour production for the month compared to approximately 34% for the month of January 2015.
SkyWest had 94,605 departures in January 2016 compared to 103,295 in January 2015, a decrease of 8,690, or 8.4%. SkyWest generated 2.83 billion available seat miles (ASMs) for January 2016, compared to 2.94 billion ASMs for January 2015, or a 3.6% decrease. Additional flight statistics for January, including passengers enplaned, revenue passenger miles, and passenger load factors, are included in the accompanying table.
