Statement By Robert L. Johnson Chairman, Caribbean CAGE Gaming Company

BETHESDA, Md., May 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert L. Johnson, Founder of Black Entertainment Television; Founder of The RLJ Companies; and Chairman of Caribbean CAGE Gaming Company is calling on the Secretary of the Puerto Rico Treasury Department (PRTD), Juan Zaragoza Gomez, to respond to a CAGE proposal, submitted nearly one year ago, to eliminate illegal gambling and generate taxable revenue by a government-regulated video lottery terminal (VLT) gaming system. 

In a letter to the Puerto Rico Treasury Secretary, Johnson stated:

"Unfortunately, for the people of Puerto Rico, the proposal has been before the PRTD for nearly one year without a final decision being made to take advantage of this opportunity.  I believe the Puerto Rico Treasury Department has failed to act in the best interest of the people of Puerto Rico during a time when their economy is in desperate need of revenue and job creation.

For this reason, I feel it is necessary to bring to the attention of all parties involved that my company is one of the few voices that is proposing a viable, legal, and necessary solution to help address Puerto Rico's financial crisis.  It simply requires the Secretary of the Puerto Rico Treasury Department to act in the best interest of the people of Puerto Rico."
