STAMFORD, Conn., May 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Harbor Point kicks off summer in traditional style over Memorial Day Weekend, beginning with the Boys and Girls Club Corporate 5K Race and after party on the Harbor Point Waterfront. There are loads of new and fun summer things to do in Stamford's most active waterfront community.  Developer Building and Land Technology (BLT) has enormously expanded the roster of community events at Harbor Point under its recently announced new partnership with Biederman Redevelopment Ventures, while keeping favorites like Harbor Point Movie Night, the Harbor Point Car Show, Farmer's Market, and more on the summer calendar.  There are also new additions to the restaurant scene, with Prime and Boothbay Lobster expected to open in June.  Harbor Point is aiming to keep its position as the go-to spot in Stamford for family fun, waterfront recreation, charitable and cultural events, nightlife, and restaurants.

"We continue to expand and refine our event programming at the same time that we're pushing hard to bring in the best restaurants and retail offerings," said Ted Ferrarone, COO of Harbor Point.  "Our vision has always been to build a vibrant 24 hour a day community, and we strongly believe that the best way to accomplish that is through social and recreational events, as well as the kinds of stores and eateries that create chance encounters among residents and visitors.  Summer is our best season because of all the outdoor options, and we're trying to take full advantage as always."

One of the great new outdoor spaces is the new roof deck at Fortina Restaurant which is located at 120 Washington Blvd and offers drinks and small bites with seating under the stars, and a view of the harbor and Commons Park.  On the events front, BLT recently announced an initiative to further activate the 12 acres of public open space in Harbor Point, including Commons Park, Harbor Point Square, and the Harbor Point Boardwalk.  BLT has engaged Biederman Redevelopment Ventures Corporation (BRV), a world-class firm best known for its successful program to revitalize Bryant Park in New York City, to assist in the development and execution of these plans.  BRV will advise on expanding and refining Harbor Point's existing slate of public events and recreational offerings in the parks and on the boardwalks with outdoor games, fitness classes, entertainment, and more.

Following recent spring events like the South End Clean-up Day and Barbeque on May 7 and the Classic Car Show on May 15 (one of two annual car shows), summer at Harbor Point officially kicks off Memorial Day Weekend.  Harbor Point will host the Stamford Boys and Girls Club Corporate 5K Race on Thursday May 26th, followed by a post party cool down on the boardwalk with live music by Jump the Gunn and food and drink specials. The Block Island Race starts off in Stamford Harbor on May 27th, with visiting race boats lining the Stamford waterfront.    Harbor Point Movie Night in Commons Park starts at dusk on June 15 and continues every Wednesday for the remainder of summer.  Exciting events in June include the Harbor Point Car Show on June 12, the Annual Stamford Magazine's Best Bartender Competition on June 15, and the Half Full Brewery 5K Fun Run on June 18.  The Crab Shell "rocks the dock" with live music every Thursday-Sunday, and will be joined by Prime to enliven the western shore of the harbor.

Special events are scheduled throughout the weekdays and almost every weekend during the summer.  For the most up-to-date information and a full events calendar visit http://www.harborpt.com/happening/ or visit the Harbor Point page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/HarborPointStamford/.  Summer recreational options at Harbor Point include:  kayak and paddleboard rentals through the Young Mariners on the Harbor Point boardwalk; public sails by SoundWaters departing from Anchor Point Marina; and evening "Pub Runs" led by Fleet Feet Sports.  In addition, Fortina, World of Beer, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Sign of the Whale and Crab Shell have a full roster of bands and events throughout the summer.

Boothbay Lobster and Prime are the newest additions to Harbor Point's thriving restaurant scene.  They join Fortina, a popular Italian kitchen known for its wood-fired ovens and delicious homestyle Italian fare, which opened in late 2015 in a gorgeous new space with a roof deck across from Commons Park, and Bareburger, the popular New York based specialty hamburger restaurant, as well as a huge list of existing eateries:  Paloma, Sign of the Whale, Corbo's Deli, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Asian Bistro, World of Beer, Harlan Social, Le Pain Quotidien, Robeks, Subway, Crab Shell, and The Hut (open late night)  in Commons Park.

BLT continues to support a variety of transportation to, from, and within Harbor Point – whether by land or sea.  The Harbor Point trolley runs to the Stamford Train Station and Downtown Stamford and can be tracked live at www.harborpt.com/harbor-point-trolley/ or via the free smartphone app.  Every event and retail option at Harbor Point is surrounded by complimentary parking, and is accessible by visiting boaters.  Transient slips are available on both the East and West branches of the Harbor (see http://www.harborpt.com/waterfront/ for more information).
