ANCHORAGE, Alaska, March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ahead of the start of the iconic Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, The Lakefront Anchorage, a 29-year official sponsor and host hotel, announces a $3,500 cash prize and an indulgent five-course feast for the first musher to the Yukon award.  

Known as The Last Great Race on Earth®, the ceremonial start for this year's Iditarod will be held in downtown Anchorage on March 5, with the official start following the next day in Willow Lake, Willow.

The special wine-paired dinner menu includes:

  • Copper River smoked salmon bisque
  • Jumbo Kodiak scallops with saffron cream sauce
  • Potted shrimp with arugula and a rosé balsamic vinaigrette
  • Choice New York strip with porcini mushroom sauce, paired with king crab cake and chipotle aioli; couscous, brocollini and baby carrots
  • Raspberry sorbet

The $3,500 After Dinner Mint will be presented on an Alaskan gold pan, accompanied by a bottle of Dom Pérignon.

In addition to this celebratory meal, the culinary team will also be serving up an authentic Alaskan dinner for 800 people at the annual awards banquet when the Iditarod culminates in Nome on March 20.
