The London West Hollywood, a modern luxury hotel idyllically perched below Sunset Boulevard and on the cusp of Beverly Hills, announces the first phase of its $23 million renovations. The redesign will feature new ninth floor suites by the original designer of the property, David Collins Studio — sixteen Royal Vista suites as well as five specialty Gate Suites that pay homage to London's Hyde Park. These twenty-one suites, in addition to a new 2,600 square foot state-of-the-art fitness center (designed by Gonzalez Architects with interiors by Richmond Design), adjacent to the first floor lobby, are set to debut this September 2014.
"I have been waiting to work again with The London West Hollywood since the day we opened, as the property delivers The David Collins Studios' unique understanding of design, service and beyond," said Simon Rawlings, Creative Director of The David Collins Studio. "The new Gate Suites will also take our timeless design to the next level."
Hyde Park is not only London's greatest park but also a significant landmark, spanning across the city. The gate system at all the principal entry points to Hyde Park is a celebration of a rich British cultural history, with the names of these gate points-- Victoria, Alexandra, Elizabeth, Apsley and Curzon – all examples of aristocratic tastemakers and nobility of the day. The London's five new specialty suites will take their names from these five gate points, each incorporating design and amenity touches of the Aristocratic life, including artwork, accessories and books. Gates have also been an important element at The London West Hollywood's overall design since conception, with elaborate wrought iron entry gates being commissioned to adorn the front entrance, setting the exclusive tone of old Hollywood glamour.
"This new phase of The London West Hollywood elevates the property's suite accommodations by introducing an even larger and more lavish room product that further enhances the luxury experience that has become synonymous with The London brand," says Jeff Kulek, General Manager of The London West Hollywood. "These exciting enhancements will complement our 200 pre-existing suites and the property as a whole, to further solidify our stature as a leading luxury hotel and destination in Los Angeles."
The color palette of the new Gate Suites was inspired by their unparalleled views and will capture the essence of California's stunning blue sky. David Collins Studio chose calming and subtle gradations of blue, casting them in light and shadow. The 'London paneled wall' – a familiar stamp of The London brand, with muted weathered patterns-- has an air of established city residence for contemplative relaxation. A curated mix of warm velvet, textured linen, grained leather, oak, relief tiles, hand cut mosaics and chopped and polished marble, provide depth throughout the rooms. Each of these 1 and 2-bedroom Gate Suites, spanning between 1,425 – 1,975 square feet, will boast a highly residential ambiance, replete with hardwood flooring; kitchens or kitchenettes; 53" flat screen televisions; and three terraces with sweeping views of Los Angeles. Beyond reveling in the exquisite design, guests of the Gates Suites will also be treated to enhanced services, including one-way airport transportation as well as VIP in-suite check-in.
The sixteen 750 sq. ft. Royal Vista Suites on the ninth floor, like other guest rooms throughout the hotel, will reflect fresh shades of green, acting as windows on to the views of the Hollywood Hills, with a palette that connects guests to the outside landscape. These suites will feature private dressing areas, oversized work desks and spacious luxury bathrooms with soaking tubs and dual shower heads, creating an essence of discreet sophistication.
The new 2,600 square foot fitness center will be a cutting edge facility whose design will embody the qualities of a traditional private members club. Paneled walls in soft grey tones will complement the silver oak and grey flooring, presenting an upscale feel. Contrasting dark oak will be used on the amenity wall and at the portal surrounds to the seating, referencing the color palette of the hotel suites. Illuminated mirror wall panels and simple recessed ceiling lighting will reinforce the residential quality of the space. The central seating area will be dedicated to both relaxation and socializing, while the state-of-the-art equipment will inspire guests to practice their fitness workouts. The center will also feature a new Kinesis wall—a four-station circuit that combines cardio, strength and flexibility training.
More significant and exciting phases of the hotel's redesign will be revealed in the coming months, solidifying The London West Hollywood as the most sought out luxury hotel in Los Angeles.
