DETROIT, May 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Trumbull and Porter Detroit hotel is pleased to announce that Detroit has an all-new, independently owned boutique hotel. The $9M head-to-toe renovation of the building located at Trumbull Street and Porter Avenue lasted nearly six months. The grand opening is planned for Labor Day weekend after the addition of an onsite restaurant. Trumbull and Porter is proudly affiliated with the Ascend Hotel Collection.
The hotel's ownership group bought the hotel in 2014 because of ties in the state of Michigan and at Michigan State University. After careful planning and working with the city of Detroit to develop a plan, the ownership began the hotel's incredible transformation together with area businesses.
Nearly all the work on the project was locally sourced; ROK Construction Services and Patrick Thompson Design led the renovation. An original mural painted above the porte-cochère by local Detroit artist Don Kilpatrick greets guests as they arrive. Furthermore, ongoing partnerships have been solidified with Detroit-based and Michigan-based businesses. Detroit Bikes has built a small fleet of logoed bikes for guest use. The hotel serves artisan beverages sourced from Crazy Fresh Coffee and Batch Brewing. Each guest room features chairs by Herman Miller, beds and hanging closets by Thompson Millworks, couches by Grand Rapids Chair and more.
A line from a poem on display in the hotel's lobby was the inspiration for Trumbull and Porter. The poem was written by the late David Blair. It says simply, "I stay even when I go." The beloved poet was not native to Detroit, but his heart was. Those who helped build Trumbull and Porter understand that he was describing his connection to and deep love of Detroit. It is the hope of the hotel's owners, staff members and management that all who stay at the Trumbull and Porter hotel Detroit will feel this connection as well.
