SAN CARLOS, Calif., Oct. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- H2OpenDoors, a project of Rotary clubs worldwide, has announced two new expeditions for 2017. In February, the project will bring 30 people to Nepal for a 9 day trip February 15-24. Cuba will be the destination for the April 21-30 expedition, with seats for up to 40.

An H2OpenDoors expedition is a week-long experience which commences with the installation of a water purification facility in a village, school or hospital in the developing world. Funds are raised throughout the year for the equipment, and preparation for transport, Customs and site work is completed prior to the participants' departure. The project work is completed within the first 3 days, and the balance of the expedition is high-level tourism. This has included private leadership academy sessions conducted by Mexico's former President Vicente Fox, immersion into the art and music of Guatemala, in-depth exploration of the historical sites of Nepal, playtime with children of orphanages and clinics, and full access to the warmth and beauty of Cuba.

The water systems deployed are large scale, capable of providing up to 10,000 residents with one-half gallon of water every day for over ten years. Often, this establishes a water sales economy, with all of the profits going back to save the community's crumbling social services

The Nepal experience in February will start with the installation of a water system for a new hospital being built in Kathmandu, serving some of the poorest residents of this impoverished city. The facility will serve 200,000 unique patients each year, and will become the only hospital in Nepal to boast fresh, safe drinking water in every sink and faucet on all six floors. No longer will bottled water be used for operations and dialysis patients. As far as water goes, this hospital will be set up like we enjoy in the United States. Following our work, we go on a 4-day trek through the Annapurna Mountains of the Himalayans. Every two trekkers will have a porter, guiding us through a very moderate trail route with amazing stops along the way.

Cuba is our destination in April for anyone who has ever wanted to go. With special access, we'll experience the history, arts, music and food of this misunderstood nation. Our installation will take place in Granma province to benefit up to 1400 who currently receive their water deliveries by oxcart. We'll explore the beach cities of Trinidad and Cienfuegos and spend five days in Havana. We conclude with a special cocktail party with 120 Cuban entrepreneurs in a lively discussion and networking event.
