LEWISTON, Maine, Aug. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Agora Grand Event Center, a Maine wedding venue created from the former St. Patrick's Church, just announced the opening of its Tower Honeymoon Suite, located in Maine's tallest tower and the only honeymoon suite in New England created in a church steeple.

At a height of 220 feet, the north tower was built in 1887 as part of the construction of St. Patrick's Church, which closed as a church in 2009 and opened in 2016 as a wedding and events venue.  Respect was paid during the renovation to maintain the building's history and reuse obsolete items, including creation of the bar from pipe organ elements, restoration of the massive stained glass rose window, and construction of a luxury lounge in the choir balcony.  But the most interesting reuse, according to owner Andrew Knight, is the new honeymoon suite.

"Nowhere in New England, and possibly the world, can a newlywed couple spend an evening alone in an elegant suite located in a church tower," said owner Andrew Knight.  "Weddings are very personal events and couples actively seek out unique wedding venues and experiences.  We're proud to offer this incredible suite as one of the Agora Grand's amenities."

Despite its location in a 19th century Neogothic church, the honeymoon suite boasts modern amenities including a luxurious bathroom complete with whirlpool tub, air conditioning, and a multi-level lounge with elevated views of the reception hall.  The bedroom is surrounded by beautiful stained glass windows and has a ladder leading to a hatch that opens to the highest levels of the tower.  "The upper part of the tower is not yet open to guests, but that may change in the future," Knight said.

The honeymoon suite is currently available only as part of a wedding package booked at the Agora Grand, which includes the main reception hall, the chapel, and accommodations at the neighboring Inn at the Agora, which opened last year following renovation of the historic church rectory.  Its Innkeeper, Jan Barrett, commented, "We're very excited about this new addition to the Agora Grand.  It's a stunning suite that's unlike anything I've ever experienced.  The new honeymoon suite and balcony lounge are truly unique!"

With several wedding dates still available in 2017, engaged couples have the opportunity to be among the first to experience the Tower Honeymoon Suite at the Agora Grand Event Center.
