WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., April 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Can you write a great story or snap the perfect photo? Rail Europe, the largest distributor of European rail products worldwide, is giving US-based creatives the perfect subject: an all-expense-paid trip to Switzerland and France. From capturing the cuisine, to highlighting historical landmarks, TalesOnRail contestants can win the chance to develop a personal creative project while abroad in Europe.

Bloggers, photographers, videographers and other artists can enter the TalesOnRail contest by sharing an entry on their blog or website by May 2, 2016, explaining why they would like to experience a weeklong trip to Europe and how it will inspire a creative project of their own, whether it is writing a novel, enhancing their photography portfolio, working on a video series, or more. Rail Europe will select a winner to ride the rails of Europe in late May, with all flights, hotels, and meals paid for by the rail distributor. The winner will be accompanied by a videographer to document the winner's experiences. These experiences will be shared on Rail Europe's YouTube channel, social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter) and contest landing page.

Europe has long served as a source of inspiration for the greatest American artists, from Hemmingway to F. Scott Fitzgerald to James Baldwin. With Rail Europe, today's modern artists can become a part of this great tradition, mining the natural and cultural beauty of Europe for their own book, essay, or photography. Trains are a fantastic place to unplug, relax, and focus on getting work done, as they transport travellers from city-centre to city-centre with ease. Travelling on a France Rail Pass or Swiss Travel Pass provides visitors with extensive travel on each country's national rail networks so they can experience everything each country has to offer.

One lucky winner from the US will get to experience a week's worth of authentic European experiences, as outlined in the following itinerary:

Day 1: Paris Like a Local
The adventure begins in Paris, where one US winner will spend the day like the locals do: delicious croissants and espresso at the café, a stroll along the Seine, window-shopping in Saint-Germain-des-Pres, dinner in a classic Parisian brasserie, and a surprise or two along the way.

Day 2: Lyon and Avignon
Many artists and writers have fled the busy city life of Paris to seek relaxation and inspiration in the colorful, playful south of France. Day two will take the winner through Lyon, the capital of French gastronomy, and Avignon, one of the gems of Provence.

Day 3: Avignon to Montreux
After having their fill of French wine in Avignon, the winner speeds off to Montreux via Geneva. Lying on sparkling Lake Geneva in the heart of the Swiss Riviera, the city is said to be the most beautiful lake promenade in Switzerland.

Day 4: The Chocolate Train
The winner will find further gastronomic indulgences on a day trip from Montreux to Gruyeres, home to the renowned Gruyeres cheese. Enjoy a visit to a cheese-making factory, then it's onward to Broc, home to the Cailller-Nestle Chocolate Factory, for some delicious chocolate desserts before heading back to Montreux.

Day 5: The GoldenPass Line
After recovering from all of the chocolate and cheese, it's on to one of the most beautiful scenic train rides in the world: the GoldenPass Line. Stretching nearly 150 miles from Lucerne to Lake Geneva, the train offers unforgettable views (from panoramic windows!) of many of Switzerland's highlights from Montreux to Zweisimmen.

Day 6: Mountain Cable Car
The trip will conclude with a stunning view of Switzerland from one of its most famous and unique viewing points: the cable car ride in Lucerne. Then it's back down the mountain via the equally famous cogwheel railway.
